Felipe Reyes, 779 and counting

Before Real Madrid’s game against Baskonia on Sunday, a special ceremony took place. Blancos center Felipe Reyes was recognized for breaking the record for most appearances in the ACB (779 matches) set by Joan Creus. A commemorative shirt and a special award were presented to the center by Real Madrid legendary player Rafael Rullán and Antonio Martín, another ex-blanco and currently the president of the ACB. The player received the awards in front of a standing ovation from the crowd in the WiZink Center.

The Cordoba-born player’s career spans across 21 seasons in the Spanish elite. He made his debut playing for another team from the capital, Estudiantes. Reyes made the short trip from Estu to local rivals Real Madrid in 2004. An illustrious career followed with 2 Euroleague titles, 6 ACB League titles, 6 Copa del Rey titles, 2 times season MVP and 2 times finals MVP. Among his other achievements Felipe Reyes holds the all-time record for rebounds in the ACB. A captain and a fan favorite, Reyes writes yet another chapter in the history books of Spanish basketball.
