Lewandowski-Klopp, an untimely reunion

Lewandowski-Klopp, an untimely reunion

Champions League’s nights at Anfield have always had something unique about them. Tuesday night will be no different as the mystical stadium will host a the first-leg of a tie between two title hopefuls with proven Champions League pedigree.

Tonight, the Reds and their famous “You’ll never walk alone” will ‘welcome’ Lewandowski for the first time. The forward can’t wait for the game to start as he hopes to take home a souvenir.

“I know that their fans don’t want us or me to score a goal or win, but for me personally, in such an atmosphere I’m even more energised at the blow of the whistle for kick-off. That’s what makes it special for me and I’m excited to play in such a stadium.”

But playing at Anfield is not the only reason that makes this game so special for him. The Polish striker is facing his former manager from his time at Borussia Dortmund. The two share many fond memories.

“He made a huge impact on my career. I have to be thankful to him because of what we did together at Dortmund. He’s a great coach and a great person. I learned a lot from him.”

According to the forward, Klopp turned him into the world class striker who will lead the Bayern Munich front line against Klopp’s Liverpool.

“I didn’t know that I still had so much potential, more than I thought, and that means he saw something in me that I couldn’t see.”

Bayern’s prolific scorer will now have the chance to show the Liverpool manager he was right. But Jurgen Kloop will no doubt have a game plan prepared to stop his former striker. In such tight games sometimes the difference between winning or losing is not making any errors.

“We made mistakes last year and the year before, and I hope that this year we will be ready so we don’t make any mistakes and if Liverpool make one, we will be ready to turn that mistake into a goal.”

There’s much more to a game than 90 minutes of football. At Anfield there’s going to be a re

union. It’s unlikely however to be a happy one for both, as only one club can go through and Lewandowski intends to return to Munich with a goal and a win.
